RB Leipzig versus. Bayern Munich
Too early for the title race, but definitely a title race decider
After drawing their first game of the season, Munich thumped Schalke away from home and home and thumped Mainz even harder at home. In a league which is constantly won by Munich because of the highly asymmetrical distribution of resources, Munich has constantly managed to overcome their initial hiccups to win it for more than three times in a row.
Since Klopp left Dortmund, there has been no real challenger to the dominance of Munich in the Bundesliga. Dortmund did come close last season until the news of Pulisic leaving which overturned their season, and cost them the league eventually. The only other realistic contender to Munich is the heavily sponsored Leipzig which has produced good teams and challenges to the Munich team in the recent past.
Leipzig has a perfect record in this season so far, but that is due to the absence of any serious competition they have faced. One could suggest Union Berlin only because it did surprise Dortmund before the international break. Having surpassed the surprise with great colours, Leipzig also managed to beat Monchengladbach away with a good scoreline. The goals and scores suggest Leipzig are a serious team this season, and may well pose a huge challenge to Munich in their quest for the title.
If Leipzig are to seriously and continuously pose this challenge to Munich, they cannot afford to lose to Munich today. They could look at their home record against Munich for encouragement because they only lost to them in their debut season in the Bundesliga, but ever since, they have managed to get a point always from Munich. Looking at the odds from the bookmakers and Leipzigs ambitions to challenge Munich for the title till the end, a double chance on Leipzig – Leipzig or Draw – is good value for money at odds of 1.95.
