Manchester United versus Arsenal

Two teams in transition looking for old glory

A famous and one of the biggest rivalries of the early 2000s. Two great managers always ignited and displayed their passion, love and understanding for the game with mutual respect for each other. Besides, the manager’s rivalry, there were constant player rivalries also – Viera and Keane, Neville and Henry, etc. It was always a big game and was played exceptionally with attacking football by both managers.

United has always turned up against Arsenal at home irrespective of their manager and league strength. This is most evident from the fact that Arsenal’s last victory at Old Trafford came 13 years ago in 2006. However, this could be the best chance for the foreseeable future for Arsenal to correct this strange fact.

With United undergoing transition and Solskjaer struggling to find success in it, Emery could use this opportunity to bring forward the momentum from their previous win and hammer United out of the park. Maguire could find Aubemyang more difficult to handle than any of the strikers he has faced this season. It should be his first major test before the other big teams show up at United.

With an injured forward line, it will be an extremely big headache for Solskjaer to find a front three that would potentially trouble Arsenal’s defense barring Luiz. It would be shrewd of Solskjaer to find and exploit the abrupt clumsiness of Luiz. Martial (if fit) and Rashford together should be able to exploit these characteristics of Luiz and weaknesses of Arsenal’s defense.

On the other side, we have a conundrum called Emery, who has tinkered with Arsenal for more than an year but has not decided on his consistent eleven, style of play, etc. Must be baffling for his starters and team to play with those uncertainties. Even with all these mismanagements, it is the sheer abundance of talent in the Arsenal ranks that allowed them to reach the Europa League finals last year, and have a comeback victory in their last outing with a man-down. Aubemnyang on song is exciting and provides a lethal combination with Lacazette but god knows why the two do not start more regularly.

Even though United will score, Arsenal should be able to get through and win this match.
